Waste Glass
The growing amount of waste glass – which goes hand in hand with increasing environmental awareness – does not seem to be reflected in current product design. Functionally appropriate solutions, such as organic waste containers which are designed to be small in size according to need, are almost completely absent with regard to waste glass. As the end user of packaging materials, we are responsible for separating and disposing of this waste correctly. This is undoubtedly a major and significant task, not only for environmental and climate protection.
Is this why the amount of glass that mistakenly ends up in the residual waste is increasing? In Munich, almost 50% of this actually infinitely recyclable resource ends up being lost in the melting process of waste incineration.

My research revealed that the combination of a lack of on-demand solutions and limited living space (especially in big cities) contribute to the fact that glass is recycled rather sloppily.

My solution is a multifunctional, all-around modular piece of furniture. The plug-in system of slanted slats secure each other, so the boxes stay together at all times. This way, it can be adapted to individual need not only in terms of quantity, but also to enable the collection of deposits in addition to used glass. The height is oriented to stools and benches, so that the storage space can serve more than one purpose in narrow living spaces. Modularity and multifunctionality are becoming increasingly necessary, especially in big cities.

The compartment width is designed to fit all standard reusable shopping bags (e.g. from REWE), so there is no need to purchase a new product. These reusable bags are optimal for transporting heavy waste glass due to their robustness and water resistance. The tilt-out cabinet function is optimized, the bag can be easily filled and removed from the top.

The elaboration of requirements such as reparaibility, conversion, configuration, tool-less assembly, circularity and open design is the next step of development.
Not only is ALTGLAS intended to increase the readiness for sustainability and recycling, but also to be a fully sustainably produced and recyclable product in itself.

TRANSMO.

SPATIAL DESIGN
EDITORAL DESIGN

This project was an interdisciplinary work between design and architecture students transforming a public space.
While teaching each other how different a design approach can be, we created a modular bus stop with innovative features. A booklet, self-made from scratch, and a scale model of our modular concept came along with it.

tado° ARCHITECTURE

PRODUCT DESIGN
UX & UI DESIGN

tado° ARCHITECTURE (incl. configurator and product catalogue) is designed to make the transition to energy-efficient, sustainable living achievable by bringing together all the necessities of heating technology into an integrated, accessible and flexible network that also offers a meaningful design outcome.

The topic of environmentally friendly, holistic living climates is thus approached in a sustainable way.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The goal was creating a befitting new appearance for an upcoming café at the Hochbunker Blumenstraße in Munich which is part of the Architekturgalerie München.

Since the AGM is thinking about a new name („Architekturzentrum München“), we created a new logo. It works for both the gallery-part and the upcoming café in one building. By utilizing transparent materials and soft colors, we tried to lighten the feeling of the bunker. The landmarked blue is used to show it‘s history. We provided an interior design look for the café.

EXHIBITION DESIGN

The intention behind this design was to support the semester-closing exhibition „Life Time“ by showing every single project title, explaining the approach in running text and giving book recommendations for the visitors. Further elaborations of the students‘ projects can be found on small take-away informational flyers alongside the exhibits. Introducing an additional element, which focuses on the topic of „time and design“ as well, this exhibition graphic works as an exhibit itself.

My Creative Approach
With the DIN (mainly in Regular; in Bold for decorations), a familiar, very readable font is used, which guarantees reliable legibility, especially in the distance. It offers the necessary objectivity for the running text elements which are read at a distance of about one to two meters. The DIN is a sans-serif typeface reduced to its essential qualities in its manifestation, thus, looking static and quiet. This makes it easy to recognize for all age groups. Different blue shades are used to differentiate the large elements. The idea of the blue color comes from the concept of blueing which occurs with increasing distance or passing time.

2020 • Cooperation project with SCHOCK GmbH

„SINK“ out of the box

PRODUCT DESIGN
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

The research and development project dealt with holistic product solutions for the functional extension of SCHOCK kitchen sinks. The aim of the project is the comprehensive consideration of the functional range through the development of new types of sink accessories. Through the user-centered research and working methods, a design of the products based on the functional and social needs of the users is achieved. Also to be taken into account are relevant market developments and trends that have an impact on the requirements of sink users. The technical implementation of the products to be developed forms a further focus.

Our Creative Approach
We found through surveys that the zone around the sink is used as a space for necessary accessories due to the need to be within reach. However, dripping water creates lingering moisture that makes it feel unsanitary.
Our storage surface, which can be customized by lowered grooves, picks up on the results of market analysis and interviews. It is adapted to the zone around the sink, grants airflow from all sides for dry utensils through straight ridges and allows the water to drain into the sink through a slope and the long lip.

In addition, we developed a future approach, which integrates the storage surface into the sink edge. Once with an additional backsplash, the other time with the surface offset downward.

ABOUT ME

Nina Lesznik

I’m a freelance designer & production designer from Munich, with a reliable, exact and result-oriented approach to work. Since 2015 I have done various tasks that have solidified my manual skills and operating the common design programs. My strength lies in conceptual work, in planning how to fulfill a project and which aspects should be covered, even before production has started.

Take a look at MY DESIGN PORTFOLIO to see some of the work I’ve done so far.

My roots lie in production design, where I found my passion for craftsmanship and design. I soon started working avocationally as a production design assistance and since the beginning of my design bachelor study i was able to gain a lot of work experience as a communication designer as well.

After my basic studies in communication design, I acquired further skills in exhibition design, industrial design & product design, which makes me a generalistic designer.

Here you can find out more ABOUT ME, my skills and which software tools I’m able to operate. And why i named my design portfolio website CUPRUM-DESIGN.
